2017 HORATIO ALGER CAREER & TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP 3/27/2017

DEADLINE:  June 15, 2017

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Have completed high school or plan to complete high school by Spring 2017 with plans to enroll at a non-profit post-secondary institution by fall 2017.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the US.
  • Demonstrate critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA).
  • Demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity.
  • Be involved in community service activities.
  • Be 30 years old or younger.
  • Be a US citizen.

ARMA LEE AND DARWIN JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 10/19/2016

Arma Lee and Darwin Jones were both avid golfer here in Butler.  They resided off the southwest corner of the golf course just beyond the number four tee box.  They had no children of their own, but they loved every child they knew and were very generous to organizations like the Shriners Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald House.  Their family would like to extend their benevolence with two scholarships of $250 each to a senior member of the girls and boys golf teams who are planning to further her/his education at a college or trade school.

Open to high school juniors and seniors as well as all students currently registered in any post secondary institution.

To apply for this scholarship you will need to write an essay of less than 1000 words on the topic, Describe the three characteristics of leadership you value most.  Discuss why you believe that these traits are so important and how you feel that they are developed in an individual.

BATES COUNTY FARM BUREAU 1/4/2017

Eligibility:

Must be a graduating senior of a current Bates County Farm Bureau member.

Criteria include, but are not limited to, agriculture background or major along with being active in high school and community.

Bates County Youth Advocacy Council Scholarship 2/27/2017

Two $500 scholarships will be given.

  • The student must reside in Bates County, Missouri.
  • The student must plan to attend college, trade school, technical school, beauty college, or other approved post-secondary education.
  • The student must fill out the BCYAC Scholarship application in full, with accurate information.
  • The student must include two letters of reference (one from a school related source and one from a non-family, community source).
  • The Student's application and two letters of reference must be received by April 1.

BCYAC Dual Credit Scholarship 10/17/2016

FOR CURRENT JUNIORS AND SENIORS.

This scholarship is intended to financially support Bates County students who wish to earn college credits by enrolling in dual credit courses.

1.  The student must demonstrate financial need.  This can be accomplished by:
a.  The school counselor verifying that the student qualifies for free/reduced lunch status for the school district.
b.  Filling out a worksheet with the student's personal and family financial information.

2.  The student must be enrolled in a dual credit course through their high school via an accredited university.

3.  The student must fill out the BCYAC Dual Credit Scholarship Application sheet in full, with accurate information.  The counselor will then forward the application to the BCYAC.

Amount: The BCYAC will pay for 2/3 the tuition and enrollment fees for one dual credit course per student per year.  The student is responsible for the remaining balance.

Community Service Option: If the student has significant financial need, he/she may complete ten hours of community service in exchange for the remaining 1/3 cost, paid for by BCYAC. The community service must be verified by the student's high school counselor.

BRIGHT LIGHTS SCHOLARSHIP 2/7/2017

DEADLINE:  MAY 1

 

The purpose of the Bright Lights Scholarship is to provide college scholarships to
students whose parents are servant leaders in their communities, including law
enforcement officers, fire fighters, and clergy.

Eligibility: 

The students eligible for assistance must meet the following requirements:

  • Be the son or daughter of a law enforcement officer, fire fighter or clergy;
  • Be enrolled or will enroll as a full-time student at a two-year or four-year college or university; and
  • Demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship assistance will generally be disbursed in equal payments prior to each semester or
trimester of the upcoming academic year, as long as the recipient provides proof of full-time
enrollment and a cumulative college GPA of at least 2.75. Payments will be made payable to
the school on behalf of the student. Scholarship assistance may be used for tuition, fees,
textbooks or required course-related materials. 

Previous scholarship applicants and recipients may reapply each year to be considered for scholarship aid.

This is a $300 scholarship sponsored by the Cass County Pork Producers in memory of Larry Dewayne Sliffe of Archie who was killed in a tractor accident May 2, 1989.  The scholarship will be paid $150 for first semester and $150 for second semester with proof of enrollment.

Must be a present or past graduate from a Cass or Bates County High School and be enrolled in a college or university in the fall of 2017.

First preference given to a student enrolled in agriculture or closed related field of study.

Great amount of emphasis placed on diligence and perseverance as demonstrated by involvement in extra curricular and community activities.

Other considerations include academic achievements, need for financial assistance, citizenship, church involvement, and attitude precepts.

Conditioned on enrollment as a full time student (12 hours credit per semester or term) at an accredited college or university in the United States.

These scholarships are for a limit of 4 consecutive years.

Must be in residence (this means Study Abroad Programs are not accepted).

Student must contact the Grand Lodge Office with any address changes.

Student must contact the Grand Lodge Office if he/she transfers to another college. (This information is imperative as it may affect the Scholarship.

MISSOURI BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP 1/10/2017

Must get your application from a radio or television station.

Must be a Missouri resident.

Must be currently attending a Missouri College, university or accredited tech/trade school or be a graduating high school senior who has been admitted to a Missouri institution of higher learning.

Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a broadcasting or related curriculum which provides training and expertise applicable to a broadcast operation.

Must be a full-time student for every semester the scholarships awarded.  Full-time status requires enrollment in at least 12 credit hours.

Must have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent , which must be maintained for each semester of the scholarship.

Application must be signed by the school's guidance counselor certifying that you meet the eligibility requirements.

The local NHS chapter will be awarding a $350 scholarship to a senior NHS member.  The application will be due to Carol in the counseling office no later than March 30.  An essay is required.

Must be the child of a disabled parent or be a disabled child themselves.

Must be seeking a degree to help people with disabilities such as medical, special education, social services, therapy and/or mental health fields.

$500 per semester towards tuition. Available for up to 10 semesters per student.

Must be a full time student of the school attended.

Must be in-state college or vocational technical program or an institution that does not charge out-of-state tuition to Missouri residents.

Must maintain a 2.0 gpa.

Available to students beginning college between the ages of 18-25.

Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Bates, Cedar, Hickory, St. Clair, or Vernon.

Must pick one of five topics to write an essay about.

 


OPAA! KENNETH L. SHORT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 1/19/2017

Application deadline: April 7, 2017

This is a one year $1,000 scholarship to be awarded to one 2015-16 graduating high school senior from a school district currently served by Opaa! Food Management.

To be eligible:
1. Must enroll in an accredited college or university.
2. Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the food service/hospitality industry.

Selection criteria includes academic achievement, work experiences, and participation in student, school and community activities.

Along with the application, the following must be submitted:
1. A typed statement of less than 500 words as to why you are applying for this scholarship; a description of your high school and community activities; work experiences; and your intended career path.
2. A letter(s) of recommendation from a high school teacher.
3. A copy of your high school transcript.

DEADLINE:  DUE IN COUNSELING OFFICE ON APRIL 1, 2017

This is a $1,000 scholarship to be split $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester.

Eligibility guidelines:

The recipient must be a female and the immediate family must be residents of Bates County, Missouri.

The recipient must be enrolled full-time in an accredited school.  A full-time student is one who carries a minimum of 12 hours per semester.  The recipient must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 for both semesters.

It is the recipient's responsibility to provide a copy of their enrollment for the Fall 2017 and then the Spring 2018 as the scholarship is split between the two semesters.

 

 


PATRIOT GUARD RIDERS OF MISSOURI 12/5/2016

The Patriot Guard Riders of Missouri Scholarship is being offered to Missouri students who are sons or daughters of those who fall within the following categories:

  • Those who have given their lives in the line of duty, including both military and first responders (police/fire).
  • Those honorably discharged veterans who have passed after their term of service.
  • Those veterans or first responders disabled in the live of duty to the extent that providing an advanced education cannot be easily realized.

This is a non-renewable award in the amount of $2,500 to one deserving Missouri student to help defray cost at any accredited institution of higher learning, including vocational and business schools.

REP. RANDY W. PIKE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 3/23/2017

Friends and family have sponsored this annual Scholarship in honor of Representative Randy Pike for two District 1267 High School graduating seniors.  Criteria includes a 3.0 grade point average or above with plans to attend a technical school, community college or four year college in the Fall of 2017 in pursuance of a degree.

Applicant must include a list of school/community/work activities (explained on the application.)

Applicant must also provide an essay (500 word limit) on the topic: IF YOU WERE A STATE LEGISLATOR, WHAT BILL WOULD YOU PROPOSE TO IMPROVE BATES AND VERNON COUNTIES?  State the issue and outline your plan.

SETH THOMAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 2/27/2017

This scholarship is given in memory of Seth Thomas.  Seth was the older of two sons of Mitch and Shelly Thomas and brother to Dutch.  He was a freshman honor student at Ballard High School where he was involved in Science Olympiad, Pep Club, Quiz Bowl, basketball and baseball.  His hobby was raising and showing cattle--an area in which he excelled, won many awards, and impressed both peers and adults with his knowledge.  He belonged to the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, North American Limousine Cattle Association and Ballard 4-H.  Seth grew up fast and did a lot in 15 years.  Seth was quite a story teller, favored country music, like to hunt deer and turkey, collected baseball cards, played piano and enjoyed reading and swimming.  He loved everybody and was always willing to help.

 

Criteria:

  • Bates County resident graduating from high school or enrolled in a college/trade school.
  • Be in FFA or 4-H. 
  • First preference given to agriculture oriented applicants.
  • Three personal references and letters of recommendation.
  • One $500 scholarship will be awarded at the Bates County Fair.
  • Emphasis will be weighed upon honesty, involvement, and overall dedication to pursue endeavors.
  • Consideration will be given to applicant's community, civic, academic, and actual need for financial assistance.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required.  One needs to be from a high school teacher, and any other member of the community that is familiar with the application.
  • The committee reserve the right to conduct personal interviews in the event that more than two applicants score equally high on the application.
  • The scholarship will be given to two candidates that submit proof of their enrollment, furthermore they may reapply each year if they haven't previously won the scholarship.
  • The deadline for all applications is June 1st.  From these applications, one Scholarship of $500 will be awarded at the Bates County Fair.

WALMART DEPENDENT SCHOLARSHIP 2/8/2017

Deadline:  Application (online only) and all supporting documentation must be RECEIVED by April 1,.

Must be a US citizen or permanent legal resident of the US.

Must be the dependent of an associate (employee) of any division of Walmart who has been actively employed with Walmart for at least six consecutive months as of April 1, 2017.

Must be a high school or home school senior graduating or earning a GED between August 1, 2016 and July 31, 2017.

Must have a cumulative high school gpa of at least 2.0 on a 4-point scale.

Must enroll for fall 2017 as a freshman/1st year student in a full-time program of study at a two-year or four-year US accredited college or university 

Must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with required documents. (Note: Students with other funds that pay entirely for tuition, books, fees, and on-campus room and board are ineligible.)
